We plan on improving the general well
being of the Tamil people who have long suffered because of the effects
caused by war and more recently the catastrophic destruction of the
Tsunami. Having visited and helped out in the affected areas, a lot
of the members have built direct contacts with the communities. Using
these contacts and with the help of willing and generous members we
plan to undertake a number of projects to improve the lifestyle of
the Tamil people so that they can lead a normal life.

Already we are involved in operations
to a smaller scale, by providing medical and food supplies to different
areas. We have a particularly close relationship with the blind and
deaf homes and orphanages. We have organized and supplied basic equipment
and aid that greatly improve the lives of people who have limited
eyesight and hearing.

TYO also aims to engage in Human
rights endeavours so that the Australian and the International community
can learn about the hardships faced by Tamil people in Sri Lanka.
When the public are more informed about the ground realities that
our people face back home, we hope that their plight is understood,
so that appropriate action can be taken by everyone to put an end
to Human rights violations. With awareness and public pressure from
all over the world, TYO would like to see the Tamil people uphold
their rights and ultimately, those rights to be respected.

TYO believes that with many hands
and more importantly willpower we can make a difference to the people
of our homeland. TYO is planning on taking up more projects but to
do this we ask our members for one small thing. Time. If members could
spare a little of their time so that these future endeavour’s
can become a reality, the difference we can make to our people there
would be immense.
As Tamil Australians, we feel a
sense of responsibility to this country and people. TYO promotes community
projects for the benefit of the greater Australian community - Tamil
Australians (and anyone interested) can contribute to help those less
fortunate in Australia. After all, we are proud to be Tamil and we
are proud to be Australian.
Remember, in order for TYO to succeed,
and for our projects to truly benefit our people in North East Sri
Lanka, we need your support. You may wish to participate by:
a) volunteering to assist with a project - the more people who volunteer,
the more the work gets shared)
b) suggesting new projects - TYO will happily help you accomplish
it
c) encouraging other Tamil youth to join TYO and participate in projects
Please scroll down for the list of projects. We
hope to have your support in our endeavours,if you would like to see
how you can make difference or would like to take a more active role,
please feel free to email us on info@tyoaustralia.org.

Redevelopment Projects
Knowledge Centre: TYO International
is building a ‘knowledge centre’ which is a tertiary
education centre (like TAFE here); TYO from different countries
are incharge of different areas of teaching/buildings; this requires
help
- financially (fund raising, etc)
- knowledge sharing (Tamil Australian youth or non Tamils going
there and teaching students)
Medical: To increase
awareness amongst Australian Tamil youth of this situation and to
provide the means by which they can alter this deadly course.
- financially (fund raising, collecting donations from hospitals,
etc)
- knowledge sharing (eg: producing medical pamphlets on diseases
(eg. diabetes, etc), Australian youth (Tamil or non Tamil) going
there and volunteering/teaching students
Blind Society: To
get aid to the visually impaired when they request it. As Australia
is a more technologically advanced society we are able to provide
those back home with the latest aids to date, and help in making
their life easier
- financially (fund raising, collecting donations, etc)
- improving their standard of living eg: JAWS, other programs
Events
We will have many events coming up, and require many hands to help
organise them. So youth with skills in marketing and organising
events/functions, please sign up!
Media work
More than a ‘project’ this area just requires members
to assist with
- publicity: of TYO
- awareness creating: of Tamil issues (outlined by TYO)
amongst Tamil and non-Tamil Australians.
- articles for website: to aid with publicity and media work
Youth with skills in public speaking, writing
articles, etc and a background knowledge of the history and current
situation, both humanitarian and policitica (eg. youth who do political
science, journalism) would be ideal.
